Meet Michael Tijerina

I’m Michael Tijerina, a lifelong Texan, community advocate, and organizer running to serve as your State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) Member for Congressional District 4.

Public service has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a union household. My father was a former public school teacher who became a union leader with the Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association, and my mother, a pharmacist, served as a union steward—representing her colleagues and advocating for workers at the local level. From local city council races in Arlington to state and national conventions, I saw firsthand what it looks like when people come together to create change. That foundation shaped who I am and why I’ve dedicated my life to this work.

At the University of Texas at Dallas, where I earned my undergraduate degree in Business and a Master’s degree in Advertising and Branding, I got involved with the Dallas County Young Democrats and helped grow membership and fundraising efforts. I also served on the board of the Red Party Foundation, supporting HIV/AIDS education and advocacy. One of the first major initiatives I helped lead was “Light Up Oak Lawn,” where we worked with community leaders to secure funding for and install dozens of new streetlights to address public safety concerns. That experience showed me the real impact we can have when we organize and work together.

Over the past several years, I’ve continued that work in Collin County. As Fundraising, Communications, and Events Chair for the Collin County Democratic Party, I’ve helped expand our reach, strengthen our messaging, and raise tens of thousands of dollars to support Democratic candidates and causes. I’ve organized major events, built communication strategies, and worked to make sure our values are visible and accessible across our community.

I’m also a graduate of the Equality Texas Next Generation of Leaders program and currently serve as a board member, advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights and equality across our state. For me, this work is about making sure every Texan—no matter who they are or where they come from—has the opportunity to succeed.

I’m running for SDEC because I believe we can build a stronger, more connected Democratic Party. I want to strengthen communication between our district and the Texas Democratic Party, make sure every community in CD4 is heard, and fight for the issues that matter most—affordable healthcare, high-quality public education, reproductive freedom, and economic opportunity.

I’m not running for a title. I’m running to serve, to listen, and to be a partner for our district. I’d be honored to earn your support.
